Students of our faculty participated in nuclear threat response training

Students of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute attended a training event dedicated to real evacuation procedures and response measures in the event of a nuclear threat, held at the National Research Center for Radiation Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

During the first part of the event, participants listened to presentations by leading scientists and professors of the Center. The talks focused on medical and organizational aspects of responding to radiation incidents, the effects of ionizing radiation on the human body, and the principles of providing assistance to affected individuals.

The second part of the event had a practical format. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross conducted a simulation-based training session during which participants became familiar with response algorithms in cases where a person is exposed to high doses of radiation. As part of the exercise, the trainers demonstrated the basic principles of assessing the condition of an affected person, providing initial medical assistance, and organizing further medical response measures.

Participation in such activities is an important component of the training of future specialists in biomedical engineering, as it enables students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills required for responding to medical and biological emergencies.
